The AC drive provides thermal overload protection for
the drive motor. However, a separate three-phase
circuit breaker must be installed for complete
electrical overload protection. This prevents damage to
the motor by disconnecting all legs if one should be
lost accidentally. Check the data plate on the back of
the washer-extractor or refer to Table 6 for circuit
breaker requirements.
NOTE: Do NOT use fuses in place of a circuit
breaker.
The washer-extractor should be connected to an
individual branch circuit not shared with lighting or
other equipment.
The connection should be shielded in a liquid-tight or
approved flexible conduit with proper conductors of
correct size installed in accordance with the National
Electric Code or other applicable codes. The
connection must be made by a qualified electrician
using the wiring diagram provided with the washer-
extractor, or according to accepted European standards
for CE-approved equipment.
Use wire sizes indicated in Table 6 for runs up to 50 ft.
Use next larger size for runs of 50 to 100 ft. Use
2 sizes larger for runs greater than 100 ft.
For personal safety and for proper operation, the
washer-extractor must be grounded in accordance with
state and local codes. If such codes are not available,
grounding must conform with the National Electric
Code, article 250-95. The ground connection must be
made to a proven earth ground, not to conduit or water
pipes.
Do not connect the ground to the neutral (N-white
wire) leg at the terminal strip.
If a delta supply system is used, the high leg may be
connected to L1, L2, or L3 on the cabinet freestanding
models as all machines are equipped with control
transformers.
Power Cable/Plug Disconnect
The following is a description of requirements for the
power cable. The cable jacket is made of flexible
polyurethane, PVC, rubber or a similar material in
accordance with state and local codes. The cable
configuration consists of a three phase, three wire with
a ground. The conductors are: a 6 A.W.G. for
135 pound models, 14 A.W.G. for 250 pound models
or equivalent for Q voltage (200 – 240 Volt, 50/60
Hertz), a 10 A.W.G. for 135 pound models, 8 A.W.G.
for 250 pound models or equivalent for P voltage
(380 – 415 Volt, 50/60 Hertz), and a Class 5 or 6
stranding. The cable rating must be type SC, SCE,
SCT, G, W or an equivalent 90°C, 600 Volt rated cable
that conforms with the National Electric Code,
article 400-5. The cable is to have a bending radius of
less than 10 times its diameter.
Do not use a phase adder on any variable-
speed machine.
