The symptom-to-FRU index in this section lists symptoms and errors and their
possible causes. The most likely cause is listed first, in boldface type.
Note: Do the FRU replacement or other actions in the sequence shown in the
column headed “FRU or action, in sequence.” If replacing a FRU does not
solve the problem, put the original part back in the computer. Do not
replace a nondefective FRU.
This index can also help you determine, during regular servicing, what FRUs are
likely to need to be replaced next.
If no error message is displayed, check the narrative descriptions of symptoms. If
the symptom is not described there, go to “Intermittent problems” on page 38.

Error messages
Symptom or error FRU or action, in sequence
KEYBOARD CONTROLLER FAILURE
The Keyboard controller failed during a
system inquiry about connected devices.
1. System board.
2. Keyboard.
KEYBOARD FAILURE
The keyboard fails to respond, or no
keyboard is connected.
1. Keyboard.

CMOS FAILURE - RUN SCU
A CMOS data error has occurred, probably
because of a loss of battery power.
1. System board.
CMOS CHECKSUM INVALID - RUN SCU
The CMOS checksum error.
1. System board.
RAM ERROR AT LOCATION xxxxxx:
WROTE :xxxx READ :xxxx
The RAM failed during a memory test at the
indicated location.
1. Reseat DIMM. If the problem still
exists, replace the DIMM.
2. System board.
PARITY ERROR AT UNKNOWN
LOCATION
A parity error occured during a memory test
at an unknown location.
1. Reseat DIMM. If the problem still
exists, replace the DIMM.
2. System board.
FAULTY REFRESH CIRCUIT
The
RAM refresh circuit does not function
properly.
1. Reseat DIMM. If the problem still
exists, replace the DIMM.
2. System board.
PARITY ERROR AT LOCATION xxxxxx
A
parity error occured during a memory test
at the location specified.
1. Reseat DIMM. If the problem still
exists, replace the DIMM.
2. System board.
NO INTERRUPTS FROM TIMER 0
Timer 0 of the clock timer controller does
not generate system interrupts correctly.
