Wheneverconnectingmorethanonespeakerperchanneltoanamplifier,youmust considerthewayinwhichtheamplifier
willbeimpactedbyaddingtheadditional speaker(s).Additionally,speakerswithdualvoicecoilsalsoapplytothis
consideration.Twovoicecoilsinasinglespeakeralsocausedifferentreactionsfromanamplifierdependingonthewayin
whichtheyconnecttotheamplifier.
Theconnectionofmorethanonespeakerperchannelwillmaketheamplifierrunwarmer.Forthebestsonicresults,use
onespeakerperamplifierchannel.Ifyoumustconnectmorethanonespeakerperchannel,therearetwomethodsinwhich
todoso:SeriesandParallel.
SeriesConnection
Aseriesconnectionisestablishedwhenvoicecoilsareconnectedinastring–endtoend–sothere’sonlyonewayforaudio
signalstoflow“in”andonlyonewayforaudiosignalstoflow“out”.Forexample,ifyouweretoseries‐connecttwo
speakerstothefrontrightchanneloftheamplifier:
• Thepositiveoutputterminaloftherightchannelconnectstothepositiveinputpostofthefirstspeaker.
• Thenegativeinputpostofthefirstspeakerconnectstothepositiveinputpostofthesecondspeaker.
• Thenegativeinputpostofthesecondspeakerconnectstothespeaker'snegativeoutputterminaloftheright
channel.
Thetotalimpedanceofspeakersinseriesisfoundbyaddingtheirimpedancestogether.Forexample;two,four‐ohm
speakersinseriesisaneight‐ohmload.Seriesconnectionsareeasierontheamplifierthanparallelconnectionsasthetotal
impedanceishigherthandrivingasinglespeaker.
