5 I use regular white vinegar to clean my coffee maker, and it should work for the iron too. Fill the reservoir with the vinegar, turn the dial to a steam setting, and then iron a bath towel till the iron is steaming properly. If you have stubborn holes that won't clear, turn off the iron and leave the vinegar in the iron overnight. Try ironing the towel again the next day. In the future to prevent this from happening again, do not use regular tap water to fill your iron if you have hard water (and it sounds like you do). Buy distilled water and use that instead. There are fewer minerals in distilled water and the iron won't get clogged again
