Question About LG Electronics Washer None
loud grinding noise from drum...

Everytime the washer turns there is a loud grinding noise coming from the washer. It sounds like a bad bearing. I took the rear panel off and found dark purple stains coming from the rear, on the stater motor. also on the bottom pan of the washer. I removed the stater motor to expose the rear bearing and drum shaft. How do you remove the back drum cover, all the bolts are removed, but the cover will not come off? Is it sealed?

3 The problem I am having is the bearing. I called a service guy out and he said it has to be replaced. The total parts to replace will be the complete rear tub assembly. (Ref# K105 part# 3045ER0008A). This is the outer plastic tub that fits around the stainless inner drum. The bearings are sold as a complete unit attached to the plastic tub. The outer tub is a two piece assembly, front and rear tub. Rear section is the only section that needs to be replaced. Due to the bearing attachment. The original front tub will attach to the new rear tub piece. The second piece that needs to be replaced is the Spider/shaft (Ref# K115 part# 4434ER0002A). It is attached to the inner stainless steel drum. The reason the service guy said to replace this part is the shaft is wearing away metal due to the grinding and bad bearing. Water actually leaked by the spider allowing the bearing to go bad. The service guy told me it will be a two man job and he would have to take the washer back to his shop. This is an authorized LG service company. LG customer service gave me their phone #. The price for service will be close to $700.00. I could buy a new washer for that price. I decided to due the job myself. The washer deassembly took me about 45min. to 1 hour to do. This is to the point of completely removing the whole drum assembly and disconnecting all the wiring and hoses. I order the parts through Andrews electronics parts(located in Ca. 1-800 289-0300) or use Encompass (Lg warehouse 1-866 779-7906) located in Texas. The price for the outer tub and spider came to $235.55 plus tax). The job is not that complicated for your average DIYer. I almost bought a new washer instead until I saw that almost all washers out there have problems. I should've kept my 22 year old Maytag set. Good Luck

0 Just wondering if you really needed to replace the spider. Knowing what you know now, would consider reusing the tub and just replacing the bearings which are available. The cost for the drum from my source being $136 or just the bearings for about $75. Thanks

0 Why is there no manual online for this model? When it says 'no water' where exactly is the water supposed to come from? Is there a compartment somewhere? Something else?

0 Mine only makes noise when it goes into the spin cycle. If I turn it manually no noise. While it is trying to spin if I pull back on the rear shock it spins freely and without noise. I have replaced the stator and the rotor and was wondering if replacing the bearing is the final answer or not.

0 I have a LG model WM2301HR that had the same symptoms. I found that the bolt at the center of the drum drive assembly was loose. I confirmed that it was loose by running a cycle and watching it with cover removed. During the load test cycle the bolt would spin in the direction of the threads but when the cycle would reverse the bolt would not spin with the tub and loosen. Once I tightened the bolt it spun both directions, the grinding noise was gone and the tub would spin. Sure cheaper than a $700 repair.

0 I have an Avanti Platinum (silver grey) portable washing machine. 

Our problem began with a clicking sound which progressed to a grinding sound within a couple of months. The problem was a plastic round disk (diameter ~7") that serves as motor fan had lost all three screws which caused it to rotate freely and break in the center. We found the lost screws and used the largest washers we could find and tightened. Today is our first day, but we hope this will serve as a longterm fix. 

If you're hearing this sound, unscrew bottom and you will see this white plastic disc toward the back in the center.
