my machine seems to be stuck on wash all morning a...

my machine seems to be stuck on wash all morning and not moving onto the next cycle! i have switched it on and off and start all over again, and it does the same thing. ... just going round and round in the "wash" cycle slowly for ages - over an hour? and not seem to be rinsing or draining...help !!
