5 First check the belt you should be able to see it from the front of the washer. If the belt looks good, pull out the agitator. Look at the metal piece that holds the basket. If this is rotted or cracked it needs to be replaced. Take off the large nut u need a spanner wrench and its reverse threaded. There are some great u tube videos. I took all my washer parts to the car wash also while I had it apart. Total cost with buying the wrench was 80$
