how do I take the electrical cord out of the housi...

how do I take the electrical cord out of the housing for service? There seems to be a problem with the wire just inside the casing. When you move the wire it will disconnect the power then come back on when you move the wire to another position.I need to know how to remove the plastic cover without breaking it.
