The power shut off switch fell apart. I have 2 wires and 3 tabs on the new one. What goes where?

5 The original switch was probably SPST (single pole, single throw). The replacement is probably SPDT (single pole, double throw). You would normally connect one wire to the centre terminal and the other to an outer terminal. If you select the wrong outer terminal, then the sense of the switch will be reversed, ie off when it should be on, or vice versa. If you connect the two wires to the "throws", then the switch will not turn on, but no damage will be done.
