CLEANING IRON...

I CAN'T FIND MY OWNERS MANUAL. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO CLEAN THIS IRON. THE CLEAN IRON INDICATOR IS ON. I TURNED THE STEAM CONTROL TO THE CLEAN SETTING. THEN I CONTINUOSLY PUSHED THE STEAM FUNCTION. NOW THERE IS WHITE RESIDUE ALL OVER THE IRON. WHAT IS THE PROPER WAY TO CLEAN THIS IRON.
