on Maytag MLG33 Clothes Dryer
How to reset
Getting a fault saying upper sail switch is open and to check the main door and lint door and try again. I have done that , doesn't help. How do I reset that so the dryer will work.
The MLG33 does not require a reset for the open sail fault but the cause must be corrected otherwise the fault will happen again when the dryer is restarted.
Below are items that can cause open sail faults in order of most likely first.
The lint screen can be blocked due to a gray build up on the lint screen. A strong detergent or degreasing solvent and a scrub brush can be used to clean the screen.
The blower fins can be blocked with lint. Compressed air and through a nozzel that can fit in through the lint drawer opening down to the fins can clear the fins. Otherwise the lint box must be removed from the dryer, the top removed and the lint removed from the blower fins.
The backdraft damper may be stuck closed. The backdraft damper is at the rear of the dryer in the exhaust duct.
A missing loading door gasket can cause an open sail fault.
Lint drawer gasket worn to the point where air can be heard sucking into the lint box is another cause.
Where the lint box joins the rest of the dryer is 1/4" foam gasket. Sometimes this gasket fails and gets sucked into the lint drawer. If so the lint box must be removed, new gasket installed.
The air duct leading from around the loading door opening to the lint box may be blocked with lint. This area can be inspected using a mirror and flashlight or by sticking ones head inside the dryer and looking back though the holes leading into this duct.
A blocked exhaust vent leading out of the building can cause an open sail fault.
